Cardiff Airport has introduced a new direct flight to Iceland, creating opportunities for onward travel to North America. The Icelandic budget airline PLAY will operate the service connecting Cardiff with Keflavik Airport in Reykjavik. This inaugural direct route will be available from October 10 to November 20.
PLAY plans to run two weekly flights during this six-week period, utilizing the 180-seat Airbus A320neo aircraft. Ticket sales have commenced with fares starting at £59 one way. Additionally, PLAY will offer connecting flights from Reykjavik to several North American cities including New York (Stewart Airport), Boston, Washington Dulles, and Toronto.
Einar Örn Ólafsson, CEO of PLAY, highlighted the significance of this new route, noting it as the first direct flight between Cardiff and Iceland. He emphasized the route’s potential to provide affordable travel options to the US and Canada.
