Cardiff, August 2024 – Cardiff Airport has enjoyed a robust summer season, with a significant increase in passenger numbers as flights to and from Wales’ National Airport prove highly popular. Tens of thousands of travellers have already passed through Cardiff Airport this summer, with even more expected as the August Bank Holiday weekend approaches.
This year, the airport has expanded its offerings, allowing customers to “fly local and go global” with a wide range of destinations. The top 10 most popular destinations this summer include Alicante, Malaga, Amsterdam, Majorca, Dublin, Tenerife, Belfast, Dalaman, Antalya, and the Algarve.
In response to the growing demand, Cardiff Airport’s airline partners have increased their services:
- TUI has added an extra 12,000 holidays to its schedule.
- Vueling has boosted the number of flights to Malaga for September and October.
- Ryanair will continue operating flights to Tenerife during the winter season.
Looking ahead, Cardiff Airport will welcome PLAY airlines in October, with the low-cost Icelandic carrier set to operate two weekly flights to Keflavík from 10 October for a six-week period. PLAY also offers connections to major cities like New York, Boston, Baltimore, Washington, and Toronto from its Keflavík hub.
Enhancements within the airport include the opening of two new catering facilities in the departure lounge, improving the overall traveller experience.
Spencer Birns, CEO of Cardiff Wales Airport, expressed his satisfaction with the airport’s progress: “We’ve had a positive year so far, with passenger numbers growing by 8% from January to the end of July compared to 2023. We’re delighted that our customers are enjoying the improved facilities in the terminal. Our teams and partners have been working hard to enhance the customer experience. This year, we’ve also celebrated significant milestones with partners like Balkan Holidays, which marked 45 years of direct flights to Bulgaria from Cardiff Wales Airport.”
Cardiff Airport remains dedicated to providing exceptional service and expanding travel options, reinforcing its status as a vital gateway for travellers in Wales.
