Cardiff City is on the verge of securing former Queens Park Rangers winger Chris Willock as their first summer signing. The 26-year-old’s free transfer is anticipated to be confirmed on Thursday, according to BBC Sport Wales.
Willock, who began his career in Arsenal’s youth system, will join Cardiff after reportedly attracting interest from several other clubs. The London-born player has represented England at various youth levels, from under-16 to under-20.
His professional journey includes a three-year stint in Portugal with Benfica, along with loan spells at Huddersfield Town and West Bromwich Albion. In 2020, he signed a three-year deal with Queens Park Rangers worth approximately £750,000. During his time at QPR, Willock made 140 appearances and scored 20 Championship goals, demonstrating his versatility on both flanks.
Willock comes from a footballing family; his brother Joe plays for Premier League side Newcastle United, while another brother, Matt, played for Salford until 2022 and has represented the Montserrat national team.
Cardiff City has been eager to bolster their attacking options, particularly in the wide positions. The club is hopeful of making additional signings before departing for their training camp in Austria later this month.
