Residents of Cardiff are expressing concerns that Roath Park Lake is turning into a “fetid swamp,” as described by some. The local council has acknowledged these complaints and suggested that dredging could be a future solution. The northern end of the lake, particularly, has been criticized for looking stagnant and being choked with silt.

In discussions on the social media platform Nextdoor, locals have labeled the condition of the lake as a “disgrace” and an “unsightly mess,” with worries about a possible mosquito infestation during warmer months. Meanwhile, the organization Outdoor Cardiff is working on a planning application for the dam at the lake’s southern end, aimed at flood prevention.

The city council, responsible for dam maintenance, is considering dredging as part of the dam’s redevelopment plan. Residents have pointed out that recent construction in the city’s north might be worsening the silt problem at the lake. For further updates, the council encourages signing up for their newsletter.

Additional news in Cardiff includes safety concerns at the Cardiff coach station and ongoing high demand for child safeguarding services.
